Capital Kosher Pantry
Hundreds of individuals across the Greater Washington Jewish community rely on the Capital Kosher Pantry—the region’s only kosher food pantry—to access free, nutritious food in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. A program of Yad Yehuda, the pantry provides fresh produce, proteins, shelf-stable groceries, and personal care items, restocked weekly. Operating like a small grocery store, shoppers schedule confidential appointments and select the foods that best meet their household needs, helping ensure both nourishment and choice for families facing food insecurity.
Fresh Produce
One of the highlights for many Pantry patrons is our selection of nutritious, fresh produce. The Pantry is fortunate to be a beneficiary of abundant seasonal produce, generously donated by Coastal Sunbelt Produce, Wheaton Costco, and Montgomery County’s Food Security Task Force.
Large Food Assortment
The Capital Kosher Pantry offers a wide variety of foods, ensuring that our patrons have choices from all the food groups. Shelf-stable foods include; cereals and grains, pastas and sauces, canned vegetables and fish, healthy snacks, juices, and more — all rotated to ensure variety and freshness.
Yom Tov Distribution
Prior to the Yomim Tovim, the Pantry distributes thousands of pounds of Yom Tov foods and necessities to ensure that our patrons can fill their tables with nutritious holiday foods. In anticipation of Passover, the Capital Kosher Pantry reconfigures its shelves to offer foods and other necessities for the holiday.
School Supplies
At the start of each school year, the Capital Kosher Pantry offers a wide array of new school supplies, backpacks, lunch boxes, and more to our patrons, ensuring that each child has the tools he/she needs to succeed and flourish.
Community Volunteers
Devoted volunteers assist with unloading, organizing, stocking, and distributing food, as well as assisting our patrons. Our dedicated volunteers include local students, parents, retirees, and those who have been assisted by Yad Yehuda in the past.
The Capital Kosher Pantry’s hunger relief efforts often make the difference between having enough to eat and going without proper nutrition. Serving hundreds each year, the pantry runs on “volunteer power,” with dedicated volunteers managing inventory, restocking shelves, maintaining the facility, and coordinating deliveries. Their commitment and hard work make it possible for our community members to put kosher food on their tables with dignity.
