Programs
Serving the entire Jewish community of Greater Washington, our main programs include Emergency Relief, Capital Kosher Pantry, Tomchei Shabbos, and Resource Advisors, while our remaining programs are independently managed.
Emergency Relief
When a crisis strikes and bills need to be paid, our resource assistance works to help stabilize financial burden and prevent greater loss. In addition, we address underlying problems that can lead to re-occurrence.
Capital Kosher Pantry
Helping hundreds of fellow community members feed their families with pride and with dignity. Our hunger-relief program often means the difference between having enough to eat and doing without sufficient nutrition.
Tomchei Shabbos
Assisting local families and individuals in financial distress purchase food for Shabbat and Yom Tov; providing them with gift cards so they can shop in a confidential and respectful manner without stigma.
Resource Advisors
Providing guidance about the various resources and benefits available through county and government agencies as well as community financial assistance programs. Also providing assistance with online applications and filing necessary paperwork.
Capital Closet
Free clothing store for new or gently-used modest, up-to-date clothing, offering an abundance of beautiful clothing of the general Jewish community. Community volunteers inspect every item to ensure that it’s in excellent condition.
Chesed Shel Emes
Assisting families who are in financial distress provide a loved one with a dignified burial in accordance with Jewish law – whether it is connecting someone with the right resources or providing direct financial assistance.
Gemach Exchange
A network of gemachim – from baby equipment to seforim – run and maintained by dedicated individuals throughout the Silver Spring, Maryland communities.
Hachnosas Kallah
Providing bride and groom with all that they need to marry is one of a select few mitzvos that benefit a person both in this world and the next world. Donate to this worthy cause.
Misaskim
Assisting during the challenging time after the petirah (death) of an immediate family member. Misaskim operates a network of shiva supply gemachim (supplies available for use at no charge)in many shuls in the Greater Washington area
Nismach
Support group facilitating friendship and support for Orthodox Jewish widows living in the Greater Washington DC area. Staffed completely by women who volunteer their time and resources, the program works together with Samchainu.
Rayut
A group for divorced women in the Greater Washington Jewish community. Our mission is to provide an uplifting and secure platform for connection, camaraderie, and support for and between participants.
The Shidduch Spot
By harnessing the knowledge and networking power of experienced shadchanim from across Greater Washington, we provide singles with connections and dating opportunities in a collaborative process that is confidential and respectful.
